Black Prince Ruby

from $55.00

(Rubyjack x Rubyjack f2) 10 beans +

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with strings

These are a few of my favorite things.

The Sound of Music knew what I like way back when, starting with raindrops on roses. Black Prince Ruby is an in cross of a few selected phenotypes of one of my very favorite strains I’ve ever grown, Rubyjack.

Rubyjack came into my life through chance, through luck, through kismet. I had to go out of town and was worried my helper would ruin my precious garden. By chance I met Stevie, a tester and rep for an IPM company. We got to chatting and he asked me what I was growing at the time, he was unimpressed and handed me a bag with about 25 seeds and said hey try this I haven’t tested it yet but it should be good.

It was really good. Rubyjack is (Ruby Slipper x Son of Jack) and I have yet to pull out a phenotype I didn’t like. She had noticeable sweet ruby red grapefruit leaners but also profoundly lemon versions of Jack Herrer, and of course about 25% of the line leaned strawberry.

Almost all of the Rubyjacks had a cascading summer shower effect down the back and down to the finger tips and toes, reminiscent of Ruby Slipper, a local medicinal strain in the Portland area. Some came out sour, all came out frosty and I have never had someone say they disliked a phenotype which is incredibly unusual.

The mom to Black Prince Ruby is my favorite tasting plant I’ve ever grown, Rubyjack lucky number 7. She tasted like the little strawberry candies everyone’s grandma had in their bag with the little red and green wrapper, her leaves turned royal purple and red fading to black and she was absolutely gorgeous. Rubyjack comes from Shiskaberry and NL and Jack Herrer and Haze crosses that made magic when they touched.

Unfortunately she had a viney growth pattern that was annoying to deal with, if she had her proper space she grew beautifully but otherwise she could struggle to yield as well as say Cuvée or Sugartits.

So I crossed her with the same male I’ve crossed into my other lines right now, a Rubyjack f2 created from her sister Ruby 8 (Pink Panther) and a stinky and vigorously stretchy Rubyjack male crossed back to the same Ruby 8

In testing BPR has shown consistently strawberry and berry candy terps and flavors and should be very unlike anything you’ve smoked recently.

She is a moderate to light feeder and stretches about 100%. Expect to train her in veg to create plant tops and prune appropriately for yield. She is a moderately early finisher, and growers should expect to harvest between 56-70 days.
